Stanley No. 4 smoothing plane (12-012-013) - $50 SOLD

Stanley No. 4 smoothing plane with a beautiful patina. Some scratches and dings on the body, and I think its japanning has been touched up or painted over at some point. The tote and knob are in excellent condition, with no splits, checks, or cracks - just a few minor dings, dents, and scratches. I did refinish the wood, as the finish was pretty bad, and had a lot of paint on it. The finish is two coats of Tru-Oil, followed by a coat of paste wax.

There is about 1 1/4" of blade left, and you will want to lap the back and sharpen the bevel. I did grind it pretty square just to make sure there were no problems. You can see the shaving it took in the last picture.

There is some wear that shows this was a working tool, but it was not abused. No cracks or other mechanical flaws. This one will make a wonderful user.
